Are you telling me you don't feel old when you're in the same room as Minami-kun?
[Apparently the other contestant's incredible exuberance has stripped Yuuri of his usual sarcasm filter. It's hard to believe Minami's older than Yurio sometimes.]
[Victor's usual touchy-feely habits and bright smiles make it easy for Yuuri to forget the razor sharpness that those things hide, but he's reminded of it all too well now. Rather than feeling discouraged, Yuuri feels determination flood through him.]
I'll get the jumps soon. I'll practice until I can land all of them.
[Admittedly, Victor's phone is silent for a while as Yuuri waits for the other shoe to drop. When it doesn't come, he sits there in shock for another second. Wow, no hidden barbs or anything.]
Thanks.
[There's no way a text, especially when it's just one word, can practically radiate suspicion, right? Probably.]
Sometimes I still have a hard time believing you flew all the way here just to coach me, even though it's been months.
[After tears and joy and a silver medal, well... Victor feels guilty. Very guilty. He's not used to that feeling, he didn't often regret his decisions. He should have been more aware of Yuuri's feelings, but he got caught up in how he would be acting. Victor knows he should have known better....
Yuuri deserved an evening of being spoiled. It was the least he could do, to try and make up his shortcomings. The younger man had been dragged away from a press conference with the other podium winners and Victor had some time to get things ready. There's a text around the time Yuuri should be set free from the reporters]
I need five more minutes!!! don't come up until I say
[Normally, Yuuri might have questioned the text from Victor, but the combination of no sleep, the stress of breaking down earlier, and The Kiss has him feeling just a little out of it. Okay, a lot out of it. He barely remembers anything from the conference, only that the press had asked a lot of questions about The Kiss. Remembering how Phichit and even Chris had helped deflect those questions when they realized what state he was in, Yuuri feels a surge of gratitude.
...what was he thinking about again? Oh yeah, he should reply to Victor's text.]
OK. Waiting by the elevator on our floor.
[Message sent, Yuuri tucks his phone into his pocket and sinks into one of the decorative chairs in the hallway. It's not exactly the most comfortable thing he's ever sat in, but for someone as tired as he is, it feels perfect. He stifles a yawn and zones out as he waits to hear back.]
[there's no reply from the phone, but Victor hurries up, before opening the door and rushing down the hall. He'll stop at Yuuri zoning out in the chair, standing in front of him and reaching down to take the man's hands from the arm rests. He lifts them, rubbing his thumbs over the man's knuckles with a soft and fond smile]
[what's it for!? Victor will reach to the man's chest where the silver medal still hung. Lifting it, he'll gently knock it to Yuuri's forehead as a reminder. After that, he'll loop arms and stride Yuuri down to hell toward their room]
You really are tired out. Come along, what kind of a coach would I be without a surprise?
[Yuuri brushes the medal away from his head with a halfhearted swipe before they head back to their room.]
Didn't sleep, remember? [Not that Victor hadn't tried to make him nap earlier. Yuuri leans into Victor's side with an amused smile.] I think you're the only coach who would do this, Victor.
[Yuuri certainly doesn't remember Celestino preparing surprises for him when he made the podium.]
Nonsense! Yakov would always have a reward for us, if we won. [Yakov is.... really a very sweet man toward his skaters. Before he opens the door to their room he'll demand]
[Huh. Yuuri wouldn't have guessed that Yakov would be so kind after seeing how surly he could be. It's a little tidbit of information that Yuuri tucks away for later. For now, he'll focus on Victor's request.]
Okay. [Despite the confused look he shoots toward Victor, Yuuri cups his hands over his nose and closes his eyes.]
[Victor will lead him into the room and settle him into a seat, turning him toward a table. He scoots around the other side and gets his phone out to take a picture of Yuuri with his face covered, then the reaction when he looks.]
Go ahead! [Victor has a whole spread of food laid out on the table, a mixture of local Chinese food and Japanese food he'd gone through some trouble to get arranged in time. The center piece is, of course, a fresh katsudon cutlet over rice.]
[At first, Yuuri only blinks as he drops his hands and opens his eyes. Then the sight and smell of the food hits him all at once. He gasps, eyes opening wide with surprise.]
Victor... [Yuuri presses his hands to his mouth, actually speechless for a second.] When did you have time to find all of this?
It's hard to beat my mom's cooking. [He's quick to agree, and he's not biased at all. Really.
After being on a restrictive diet for so long, the spread in front of him looks heavenly. He's definitely wide awake now. For a moment, Yuuri glances between Victor and the food like he's asking, "You're really letting me eat anything on here?"
Gingerly, he picks up a set of chopsticks as he smiles at Victor.]

We don't talk about my age.
no subject
What's wrong with talking about your age? I'm pretty sure you mentioned mine first.

no subject
Okay okay. We won't talk about it.
Doesn't change the fact that Minami-kun is way too energetic, though.

[There's a pause before he fires off a second text.]
He wants to be like me? I thought it was just the skating he was interested in?
no subject
[this is a nice sentiment until you remember he thinks you're a fuckup. A fuckup with potential, but well....]
no subject
[Seems like someone's starting to catch on.]

[again, a sweet sentiment, until the second part of the text pops up]
You just fall more than some people

I'll get the jumps soon. I'll practice until I can land all of them.

[oh look an ACTUAL nice thing, without some dig of a follow up]

Thanks.

Don't pass out, yet! I have a surprise, Yuuri.

A surprise? [He fights back another yawn as he staggers back onto his feet.] What's the surprise for?
