[The day starts off somewhat normal for the people in Apartment 20.3. Korra getting up early, Wan and Sonia still sleeping... at least, it appears that way. The illusion is quickly shattered when a tiny lump jumps onto Wan's stomach and probably waking him.]
Are you my new baby sitter?
[When Wan opens his eyes, he'll find a shrunken version of his future self peering down at him curiously.]
[Heart still beating fast, despite knowing that the bird-thing now cradled in her arms is harmless, Korra hardly has time to recuperate before she hears something else that makes her sit up in alarm. Footsteps...and a voice?
[He was dressed in his winter clothes, which should have been far too heavy for the warm weather. But this being the spirit world and him being the spirit of a past life, things like that could be ignored. He lifted a hand to a tree branch as he ducked under it and got close enough he could squat down in front of her.]
How did the two of you get lost all the way out here?
[Her lip wobbles dangerously again, but--no! She's not supposed to cry in front of her past self! What if she cries and he doesn't think she's a good Avatar?
Korra's chin takes on a determined, stubborn set.]
I dunno...I was supposed to be with a friend. But I lost her.
[It is said that there was once a little girl who couldn't reach her spiritual side. No matter how hard she tried.
But there was one thing she could reach, all so easily. Her dreams. After all, in dreams, things are possible that are not even possible in the spirit world.
Such as meeting a monk, around the same age, who is currently giggling and hugging a baby bison.
[One would think that in such a spiritual world, filled with monks and benders, the Spirit of Winter would find more believers around. Sadly that's not the case - people are still very picky when it comes to choosing what to believe in or not.
So it's during times like today that Jack Frost gets tired of trying and decide just to lose himself in the vasts deserts of ice and snow, bothering otter-penguins and tiger-seals, trying to find the rarer bear-dog to ride and place races against.
What he doesn't expect to find is a little girl looking quite out of place in the middle of the white background.]
I wonder if she's lost... how did she even get here in the first place?
[Talking to the animals is an old habit of his to fight loneliness. It isn't like she can really hear him anyway... can she?]
[As if the universe decides to prove Jack wrong, the little girl's head turns toward Jack as soon as those words leave his mouth. She's shivering badly, the snow already soaking into her clothes and making it hard for her to warm herself up.
She reaches toward him, too numb to speak just yet.]
[Jack freezes (ha!) when she turns to him as if she could... wait... it can't possible be, can it? He gasps when she reaches toward him, getting him out of his shock and making him run toward her, crouching in front of the kid with the biggest smile on his face. Of course she's lost and that's not a laughable matter, but he can't help it. She heard him!]
[The past few years have been exceptionally rough for Tenzin, ever since his father passed. He'd taken it upon himself to manage a majority of his leftover tasks while saving the grieving for his private time. ...If it hadn't been for Pema, he wasn't sure if he would have been able to hold onto his sanity.
And now the news has finally reached him through the White Lotus. The new Avatar has been found, filling Tenzin with a full spectrum of emotions. Confusion and hurt - part of him thought that Avatar Aang would just get back up and start living again, after all he was said to have come back from the dead once yeas ago - mingled with a bittersweet fondness. A faint sensation of hope.
It wasn't long before Tenzin traveled to the South Pole, where Tonraq and Senna welcomed him outside their home. They were accommodating - and willing to let Tenzin meet their daughter one-on-one. His nerves were nearly overwhelming - he just wanted to get it over with now. And seeing her by himself, well, the less people who saw him get as emotional as he thinks he might, the better.
And soon, a tall, bald man climbs through the portal into the home, peering for his father's next life, looking as hesitant as can be.]
[Well, let it not be said that he's entirely without stuffiness.
Regardless, he hears the tiny feet pattering and looks up as the tiny girl enters the room. Could this be her? Yes, it had to be her...
It takes a moment, but he smiles warmly and gets down on his knee to talk to her. If he's going to be a father someday, he has to get used to talking to little kids.]
Hello there. There's nothing to worry about. I've already found your parents, and they will be returning shortly. They just sent me to meet with you first.
[For someone who had seen various versions of a vast blue planet by now, Sheryl never ceases to be in awe of plant-filled surroundings, especially when she winds up in a neverending field of flowers. Truly an explosion of colors like an endless, limitless rainbow if she thinks so herself. Maybe she can write a song about it! All she needs to do is reach for her pen and notebook and—]
Helloooo! Can anyone hear me? Yoohoo!
[... Or not. Songwriting can wait because right now, she's literally elbowing the overgrown flowers out of her way (because they're five feet tall!) and grabbing on to some nearby stems in case she accidentally trips on her high heels. No matter what, this idol singer needs to find free space — and fast! She glances around with a mixture of annoyance and bafflement in her face, and just as she pushes another obstacle aside, her blue eyes soon discover another presence.
Gasping in surprise, Sheryl quickly pokes her head from the large petals blocking her view to get a closer look. Just what is a little girl doing in a place like this? Is she as lost as herself? Either way, there's a sudden burst of curiosity and sense of protection building within her. A second later, a manicured hand pokes out from the petals to join her head, and she points.]
I see you!
[She says in a determined fashion as she stubbornly continues to push those damn gigantic flowers. Being able to project her heavily-trained voice without straining her vocal chords is one of Sheryl's talents as a singer. Anyway, there's a tall, pink-haired woman in a fancy mini-dress heading towards Korra.]
[Korra gets the niggling feeling that she should know this girl from somewhere, just like she should remember something about...the moon? Huh.
Either way, there's a whole bunch of flowers around, and Korra can't even begin to see the way out of here. But since there's a lady coming towards her, maybe she should meet her halfway? Korra begins to push the flowers out of the way and walk toward Sheryl.]
[Time for her to let out a small, sheepish laughter. Not like Sheryl will readily admit that she's really lost and all, especially not in front of a toddler. Once she successfully pulls herself out of the flowers' flimsy grip, she flickers her gaze over to the girl as she makes the distance between them shorter. Wait a minute... hadn't she seen her before?]
— Oh my, you look like someone I know. A very petite version of her.
it's babysitting time!! or maybe even the beginning of Korra's waterbending training. why not both. it's also snowing in the south pole, and Katara bends down to pull a hood over Korra's ponytail. ] Shall we build a snowman, Korra?
Okay! [Your efforts are in vain, Katara. Korra stands still long enough for her Sifu to pull the hood up, but once she's racing off across the snow, it just slips right off again.]
[ darn. maybe airbenders could be able to blow it back on with a wind, but she has to settle for following after Korra on boot. s-so tiny but so fast. ] Slow down, Korra!
And of course it is. I'll tell you the details if you put your hood back on.
[Jinora rarely got the chance to visit her grandmother. Her dad was always so busy that they couldn't leave Republic City very often. In fact, this is only her second visit and she'd been too young to remember the first. While her father spoke to the White Lotus and Korra's teachers about her progress, Jinora wandered through the compound. It felt strange, not like the open space and feeling of serenity Air Temple Island had. It was all walls and guards. Jinora tries to imagine living here, but her very spirit rebells at the idea.
She's looking for the new Avatar. The concept of reincarnation is a bit challenging for a four-year-old but she understands that Korra is the Avatar, just like her grandpa had been. But she's distracted from her search by the gentle snowfall in the courtyard. Snow is still new and novel to her. She tilts her head up to watch the snowflakes drift peacefully. Jinora uses basic airbending to try to keep the snowflakes off the ground as long as she can. Her giggling echoes through the courtyard as she spins in place a little, completely caught up in her game.]
[There's an answering giggle from the side as a ball of energy darts out from another part of the compound, practically hurtling into the snow. Once Korra's done jumping into the bigger snow piles, she looks up and spies Jinora standing there.]
You're new!
[It's a rare thing, to see someone her age inside the compound.]
[He hadn't been that mentally exhausted in awhile. Focusing on gathering the parts that he needed for the radio tower was in and of itself an exercise in focus. If he'd been looking for calm, or blankness, it was eluding him, much to his annoyance.
But whatever his feelings were underneath the surface, he was perfectly collected and calm outwardly, as he descended into a ruined building to look for some sort of malleable metal, or a part that might work for what he needed.
[There's a pattering of feet nearby as Korra races through the area, feeling a little bad that she'd left the house despite promising Wan. But this is all so new and interesting! The buildings around the house are so different than what she's used to, and so old looking.
She stops when she sees Mako.]
Hi! [Korra smiles brightly at him, remembering what Wan had said.] Are you one of the special and important people training here?
For Wan! If Haven did silly things instead of terrible things
