[Jinora rarely got the chance to visit her grandmother. Her dad was always so busy that they couldn't leave Republic City very often. In fact, this is only her second visit and she'd been too young to remember the first. While her father spoke to the White Lotus and Korra's teachers about her progress, Jinora wandered through the compound. It felt strange, not like the open space and feeling of serenity Air Temple Island had. It was all walls and guards. Jinora tries to imagine living here, but her very spirit rebells at the idea.
She's looking for the new Avatar. The concept of reincarnation is a bit challenging for a four-year-old but she understands that Korra is the Avatar, just like her grandpa had been. But she's distracted from her search by the gentle snowfall in the courtyard. Snow is still new and novel to her. She tilts her head up to watch the snowflakes drift peacefully. Jinora uses basic airbending to try to keep the snowflakes off the ground as long as she can. Her giggling echoes through the courtyard as she spins in place a little, completely caught up in her game.]
[There's an answering giggle from the side as a ball of energy darts out from another part of the compound, practically hurtling into the snow. Once Korra's done jumping into the bigger snow piles, she looks up and spies Jinora standing there.]
You're new!
[It's a rare thing, to see someone her age inside the compound.]
[Jinora stops bending immediately, startled by the laughter. But when she sees it's a girl about her age, she examines her curiously. Jinora very rarely sees any children-- all the acolytes are adults and Ikki is still a baby.
Jinora smiles. She holds up her hand and puts up four fingers.]
[Korra chews on her lip, the picture of someone trying to keep a secret, but totally failing. Especially when she blurts out her next words, unable to keep it in any longer.]
Wait! You're my age. If I'm the Avatar, does that mean you're my grandkid?
[Jinora moves into a spot relatively clear of snowdrifts and shifts to a basic stance. Frowning, she spends a good ten seconds adjusting her stance. Her dad told her to take her time and do it properly whenever she would airbend.
Finally, she's satisfied. Jinora begins moving in slow circular motions and starts moving her arms in circular motions too. It's not graceful like her father's bending, but it's pretty good for a four-year-old airbender-in-training.
A light gust of wind swirls around her. Heartened, Jinora moves a bit faster. Unfortunately, that means her control suffers and a large gust of wind sends snow flying. She stops, looking embarrassed.]
She's my waterbending teacher! We're s'posed to have training right now, but she said she has some special people coming to see her!
[Korra takes Jinora to a less populated area of the compound, closer to the gates. While she can see one of the White Lotus sentries peering down at them, she just ignores him.]
Really? [Korra blinks at Jinora, eyes growing wider. It had never even occurred to her to ask, with her parents and everyone else telling her she needs to stay here.]
Do you really think your daddy will let me come with you guys?

How come you're my size?
no subject
Jinora smiles. She holds up her hand and puts up four fingers.]
'cause I'm four. Are you four too?
no subject
I've never met someone else who's four. Are you going to stay here, too?
[All she can think of is how that means she'll have a friend.]
no subject
She shakes her head at Korra's question.]
Daddy and I are visiting. He's talking to the old people. I got bored so I'm looking for the Av-a-tar. She used to be my grandpa.
[Now she puffs out her chest, clearly proud that her grandpa was the Avatar.]

[She pouts.] But I'm not old!

[Jinora smiles. Aha, she found the Avatar! Sort of.]
Uh-uh. You can just bend all the elements like grandpa could. You can't be my gran-gran 'cause I've already got one.
no subject
[And then she's sulking a little.] Can't. I dunno how to air bend yet.
no subject
[She looks sympathetic.] I've been training for months and I still do it by accident a lot.
[Jinora perks up, like she has a brilliant idea.] I can show you my airbending and maybe you'll figure it out!
no subject
Show me, show me!
[Korra's practically bouncing with anticipation at this point.]

Sorry.

That was cool! We should do something else if you can make the snow fly around, too.
[Korra grabs Jinora's hand.]
Do you know how to make a snowman?
no subject
When Korra takes her hand, she looks up in surprise, then looks a bit shy again at her question.]
No. I never made one.

[Korra beams proudly and tugs Jinora along.]
Come on, come on!

Before she could dwell on it, Korra is dragging her along. Jinora follows along, giggling and trying her darndest to keep up.]

Why're there so many guards?
no subject
I tried to sneak out a couple a’ days ago…. I don’t think they like it when I go outside.
no subject
So they stand there an' look scary so you won't leave? That's mean.
no subject
You live on an island?

[Korra's mood seems to take an abrupt downturn, making her frown down at the ground.]
I wanna see it, too.

Maybe Daddy can take you back with us! You hafta learn Airbending, right?
