[ He gets so many cool points for that one, if she can be honest. Her grin widens. ]
No worries, I'll be long gone by the time they eat them. Or sitting across the lunch room recording it discretely. As for them, well... we've all become pretty good friends. They get bullied more than I do, I think! Buy they agreed with me, we need a little revenge!
[Of course she'd be recording it. Why is he not even surprised? Apollo just shakes his head, small, but amused smile on his face.]
So. You're friends with these girls?
[He's trying to remember if she's ever mentioned before. With a pang of regret, Apollo realizes that they haven't really shared too many details about their personal life with each other. If those details didn't relate to a case in some way, that is.]
Oh, yeah. Sort of... we're from different walks of life, so we don't really hang out together. But since we get picked on, we can at least talk to one another about it, you know? Honestly, I've only got one or two friends in school, but I get along with most everyone.
[ It's true, too -- Trucy's all for sharing information if asked, depending on the subject, but when it comes to school stuff she rarely says anything to anyone period, including Phoenix himself. She smiles apologetically at him, though. ]
Really? [He's both puzzled and surprised by this.] You're so outgoing, I would've expected you to have a lot more than that.
Besides... [Apollo smiles at her, tapping her hat again pointedly.] It's not off topic if I asked. I want to know more about what's going on with you outside of the crazy cases we get involved in.
Nah, I've never really needed a whole lot of friends. Besides, it's hard to get close to someone who was working all the time to try and help pay the bills, you know? [ Unlike other kids, she hadn't had all the time in the world to hang out after school, not when there were shows to do and bills to be paid, but she'd never minded. The friends she did make stuck around and understood, and that's important.
If asked if she could take it all back and have a do over, she'd decline. Phoenix Wright is the best thing that's ever happened to her; she's got a family, a career that's pretty much a set path now with her shows, and she's even able to say she knows a bit about the law. She's content.
She grins at him when he taps her hat once more, and shrugs her shoulders with a snicker. ] Honestly, my life is boring outside of that! Daddy's always asking me, 'what did you learn today in school?' and I'm always having to tell him 'nothing'.
[ ...Typical, really. But doesn't every kid and teenager say that when asked? ]
Oh...yeah. [It'd been mentioned in passing before, but Apollo had been so distracted by the rest of the Misham case, Trucy's work history had sadly been shoved to the background.] Mr. Wright was lucky to have you helping out back then.
[His smile turns somewhat bittersweet; though the scene Trucy's described seems harmless enough, Apollo honestly has no idea if it's a normal conversation between a parent and child at all. He's got nothing to really base it off of, after all. Still, he keeps it to himself, offering a simple nod in reply.] Or I suppose I should say, you both were lucky to have each other, back then and now.
Yeah...I can understand that. [The smile he offers her is both fond and gentle--a combination that isn't often seen even with his friends.]
I still can't believe I have family, after all this time. [He marvels, shaking his head slightly. Then, he's shaking his head for an entirely different reason when he looks down at the cart again. He could swear the Snackoo packages have duplicated.] Are you sure we need all of this?
It's a little annoying he isn't telling us everything, but that's daddy for you. Besides, we can have a little fun with this. When he comes home, we'll have to prank him or something, or we can use this to hold over his head!
[ If she's not above blackmailing Prosecutor Gavin, she's definitely not above blackmailing her own dad, okay. She smiles back and happily throws her arms around poor Apollo at his words. She'd never dreamed in a million years she could have a big brother out there somewhere and that somewhere happened to be closer than she could ever realize. ]
I can't, either. I didn't think anyone else was out there... and I'm really happy it's you, Polly! [ Poor Apollo. She squeezes him lightly, before blinking at that next statement. ] Oh... yes! See, we have bait for Ema now, and in the future! Plus, at least six months worth of snacks for ourselves!
Six months?! [Looking down at the number of packages, he can believe it.] You know that these have expiration dates... [right??]
[While he's trying to figure out if he can put some of these snackoos back without her noticing, he distracts her by changing the subject.]
I wouldn't be above a prank. [Phoenix did hide something that impacted him and Trucy in a pretty major way, after all. Part of him, the part that isn't ecstatic about possibly having a sister, is more than a little unhappy about this breach of trust.] What did you have in mind?
Yep! See? We'll never go hungry on investigations again! [ She folds her arms and nods her head sagely. Snackoos are, in fact, a very serious subject around these parts. Except they aren't, but now they're well prepared. ] Oh, I know they do, silly. But these things are so packed with preservatives, I'll bet they'll keep for far longer than the expiration dates! And then we can give THOSE ones to Ema, too!
[ Poor Ema. Knowing the detective, she'd eat them anyways. Trucy tips her head to the side at Apollo's inquiry, and she flashes him a bright grin. ]
Oh, that's easy. We're not going to tell daddy that we know anything. What we are going to tell him is that suddenly, we're very much in love and we're dating, and nothing can get in our way. [ She says dramatically, placing a hand to her forehead for show. ] If that doesn't unnerve him and get him to spill the beans on his own, I don't know what will. If we're lucky, we can make him so uncomfortable he'll start stuttering and acting like a total newbie! Have you ever seen him like that, Polly? It's pretty funny.
Truce... I don't think giving Ema a stomachache via expired Snackoos is going to endear us to her.
[Somehow her next words are even more nerve-wracking than her previous ones. Pretend to date Trucy? All thoughts of Snackoos temporarily discarded, Apollo rubs the back of his neck nervously.]
I don't know about this. I haven't even dated anyone for real--what makes you think I can pretend date convincingly enough to fool Mr. Wright, of all people? Your dad's known for squeezing the truth out of witnesses.
[At this point, he's rambling, though he doesn't seem to notice.]
I think she's got an iron stomach anyways. I mean, look at all of the Snackoos she crams down her throat on a daily basis! She'll be fine!
[ Trucy blinks a few times, before she laughs and waves a dismissive hand. ]
What? Don't worry, I've never dated anyone for real, either. But I've seen enough stupid movies to be able to act the part out. Besides... all we want to do is make daddy feel extremely uncomfortable. He'll break pretty quickly, I think. Just leave it to me! All you'll have to do is smile and nod.
[ She reaches up and prods one of his cheeks with a gloved finger, her grin never once fading. ]
Stop worrying so much, Polly. We're going to break daddy's brain, and it's going to be great!
[Feeling himself cave before she even finishes her spiel, Apollo just sighs, not even trying to bat her hand away from his face. A ploy based on scenes from movies...this is what his life has come to.]
You're really sure about this, Trucy?
[If he's honest, the more vindictive part of him thinks making Phoenix uncomfortable is fair punishment for keeping this from them. That doesn't mean Apollo still doesn't have a healthy dose of fear for his boss' special brand of humor, though.]
[ It can only go up from here, Apollo. She nods excitedly, allowing him his space again in lieu of doing a twirl right there in the aisle, nearly knocking the Snackoo display over in the process. ]
Yes, I'm positive! Daddy's face will be priceless, and besides, he deserves it, doesn't he? Like I said, all you have to do is smile and nod, I'll do the rest of the work! We'll hit him with everything we've got!
[ As though to demonstrate, the magician slams her fist into her opposite hand, a brilliant smile lighting up her features. ]
Now, let's buy these Snackoos and get our DNA test on!
[Okay, that plan doesn't sound too bad. There's no doubt in Apollo's mind that Trucy's the more convincing of the two of them--he has no problem with letting her do the talking.
The Snackoo's, though... Apollo simply sighs and begins pushing the cart toward the check out area.]
[ Trucy flashes him a bright smile and an enthusiastic salute as she casually trails behind him, her texting task at hand. She nearly bumps into Apollo, though, as she doesn't look up immediately once they get into line. ]
Wow, she's fast. She says that, and I quote, 'we can make the trade via her locker'. She says our test will be waiting there, and we are to leave the chocolate cinnamon snackoos specifically for her.

[ She chuckles a little, finally grabbing the last bag of Snackoos and tossing them into the cart that's... almost overflowing at this point.
Happily, she looks up at him and links their arms together once more. ]
Anyways, I don't need a lot of friends when I've got you and daddy, you know?
