Wow, tell me how you really feel, Athena. [He deadpans as he straightens up, careful not to drop her like the dork he is.]

If you want to play poker, go talk to Mr. Wright. He was undefeated for several years.

[hearinghearts]

[ He'd better not drop her or her revenge will be swift and somewhat painful. ]

[ Widget decides to chime in: ] Dork!

[ Athena gives him a flat look. ] No thanks. [ Mock-dramatically: ] I only use my powers for good, Apollo!

[pollygrapher]

[Dork?? Why can't I be cool for once? There's not much point in protesting when it comes to the three of them, though, at least not when it comes to his image. Sigh.

He leans in, still smirking a little.]

Are you sure? Trucy helps him cheat sometimes. Between your ears and Trucy's eyes, you'd have a fair game.

[hearinghearts]

[ He's never going to be cool. Sorry, Apollo. ]

But why play against her when I can recruit her to my team?

[pollygrapher]

[Why do you have to crush his dreams so cruelly?]

Wait, if Trucy's on your team, who's going to be on Mr. Wright's team?

[He has a bad feeling about this...]

Let's just say you should work on your poker face.

[pollygrapher]

[She can probably feel the way his entire body goes rigid in denial. Then his shoulders slump.]

Do I even have a choice in this?

[hearinghearts]

Of course. Though if you don't play, it's not really fair...

[ She leans in closer. ] Can you really live with that, Apollo?

[pollygrapher]

Now you're playing dirty. [SURPRISE...except not really.]

Fine. [He sounds so resigned at this point.] Pick a date and we'll do this.

[Even though part of him suspects his boss would probably be better off without Apollo's "help."]

[hearinghearts]

Perfecto! I'll have to consult my partner [ in crime ] first, of course.

[ Hope he doesn't mind suddenly being twirled because she's gonna try. ]

Besides, what plans do you have outside of the office anyway?

[pollygrapher]

[He follows her lead, a wry smile on his face as he's turned in a circle.]

Hey, I resent the implication that I have nothing to do outside of work. For all you know, I could have a really busy social life.

[No...he really doesn't.]

[hearinghearts]

[ She finally lets go of his hand, once she knows he won't go careening into anything. ]

I can hear you lying.

[pollygrapher]

[He pulls a face at her half-heartedly.]

You know, between Trucy's and my eyes, your hearing, and Mr. Wright's magatama, it'd be a miracle if anyone could keep a secret in this agency.

[Not that he's complaining. Having all these human lie detectors around means they'll be able to make sure their clients are well and truly innocent.]

[hearinghearts]

I don't think that's a bad thing. And it means we can be ourselves, right?

[ Even if lies are kinder, sometimes. But four human lie detectors can at least bond over their sheer inability not to see lies. ]

[pollygrapher]

That's one way to look at it.

[The song chooses that moment to end, and Apollo pulls away somewhat regretfully. What can he say? He might be exasperated with his coworkers some of the time (read: most of the time) but they've grown on him.]

How'd you figure out how to use your abilities like that anyway? It's pretty specific, and tied in with Widget.

Mr. Wright never told you? He suggested it to me when I was still studying in Europe.

[pollygrapher]

He mentioned meeting you in Europe, but not about that.

[His eyes slide over to the newly reinstated defense attorney, still marveling over the change in appearance.]

He notices a lot more than he likes to let on sometimes.

[ She follows his gaze. ]

He would have to, to be as good as he is. Mr. Wright couldn't have gotten this far on bluffing alone.

Although...

[hearinghearts]

...that knowing look is unnerving sometimes.

It could have been worse. Trust me.

[Ever since getting his badge back, Phoenix hasn't been trying to put on the air of ~mystery~ like he did when Apollo first joined the Agency.

...that's probably a mercy for Athena, honestly.]

He was that different, huh?

[pollygrapher]

Yeah. It was honestly shocking when I first met him.

[Apollo would be lying if he said he wasn't still a little leering of Phoenix now, but he thinks he gets his boss a little better now.]

He kept pretending like nothing was really a big deal.

[hearinghearts]

It's a common coping mechanism.

[ It's not like Athena knows this personally or anything. ]

[pollygrapher]

[He knows that all too personally, as well. Apollo lets that hang between them for a moment, raising his brows at her with a wry smile. Time to move on, he thinks.]

So? Studying in Europe? [Apollo gives her a verbal nudge while taking a seat on the old couch, leaving some space open for her if she wants to join him.] How'd that go?

[ Athena either doesn't notice or (more likely) pretends not to notice. She sits down next to Apollo. A grin spreads across her face whem he mentions Europe. ]

I loved it. Learning new languages, cultures, mannerisms. But studying different legal systems and philosophies was the best part of my studies.
